For the 9th year in a row Miami School's Phys. Ed Program received the PHE Canada National Award "for outstanding achievement in quality daily physical education."
MANITOBA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION AWARD WINNERS
SAMANTHA HINK - May 18th 2010 - Sammy Jo Small Award
Samantha Hink was selected as tournament MVP and All Star on several occasions and took the zone 4 scoring title in league and playoffs with 65 points. She scored 6 goals and had 5 assists in 4 playoff games. She is also a multi sport athlete who is also involved with Student Council and other community activities. She helped lead the Tigers to four tournament victories.
JOSHUA McCHARLES - April 30th 2012 - MHSAA Rural Athlete of the Week
Josh McCharles of the Miami Marlins badminton team is this week’s Tri-Star Rural High School athlete of the week. Josh along with his doubles partner, Jordan Madill, won the Zone 4 boys doubles badminton championship to earn the opportunity to compete at this weekend’s Badminton Provincial Championships in Carman. During the year he placed 1st at the Regional & Maples tournaments, 2nd at Louis Riel and 3rd at Carman and Gimli tournaments. Coach Brent Unrau states, “On the court he plays the game the right way by having respect for his opponents and for the game. Beyond the court Josh is heavily involved in the school and the community of Miami. Being a K-12 school the elementary students and younger students really look up to Josh who is a first class person in and out of school”. This grade 12 student also competes in soccer and volleyball.
JORDAN MADILL - May 14th 2012 - MHSAA Rural Athlete of the Week
Jordan Madill of the Miami Marlins badminton team is this week’s Tri-Star Rural High School athlete of the week. This boys doubles player along with partner, Josh McCharles, recently capped off a great season by winning silver at the Provincial Badminton Championship in Carman. Earlier in the year they won at Carman, Maples and the Zone 4 Championship. They finished second at Louis Riel and third at both the Gimli and Carman tournaments. Coach Brent Unrau States, “Over the past 7 years I have come to appreciate and respect Jordan as a student and person. Jordan is a dedicated, respectful, athletic, intelligent, caring, courteous, and compassionate student athlete. He cares for his school and community. Jordan is a good role model for the young boys of Miami School and the community to look up to.” This grade 12 student also competes in volleyball, soccer and hockey.

The Tire Recycle Rural High School Athletes of the Week are Phoebe Riddell & Shelby Orchard of the Miami Marlins badminton team.
This girl doubles team has won three of four tournaments they have entered winning the Carman JV, Northlands Parkway Varsity, and Louis Riel JV tournaments. Coach Brent Unrau states, “The girls do a great job of representing our school and community in everything they do. They are both respectful, hardworking, determined, athletic, intelligent, and caring individuals, just all around good people”.
Orchard, a grade 10 student, maintains a 95% academic average, while also participating in hockey, curling, volleyball and fastpitch. Riddell, in grade 9, also maintains a 95% academic average, while also participating in volleyball, fastpitch, and track & field.

The Tire Recycle Rural High School Athletes of the Week are Kael Stueart & Tayah Vanstone of the Miami Marlins badminton team.
This mixed doubles team won three Junior Varsity tournaments this year, Northlands Parkway (Winkler), Louis Riel, and Carman tournaments. Coach Brent Unrau states, “Kael and Tayah work and play really well together by supporting each other no matter if they win or lose. They are both responsible, respectful, caring, and polite students. They demonstrate great sportsmanship and strive to achieve the highest level possible in both academics and athletics.” Kael maintains an 80% academic average, while Tayah maintains a 95% academic average.
